Dart Throw Lines
Also known as the Oche, the throw line or toe line must be at least 2-3 feet in width. It can be made out of store bought throw line tape or marked simply with tape, a piece of metal or wood. It should also be placed at specifically at 7 and 9 feet ¼ inches from your board if you are using standard steel-tipped setups.
For those who use soft-tipped darts, the line should begin 8 feet from your board. However, there are British pubs that use 8 foot or sometimes, 8 foot 6 inch measurements for steel-tipped darts. But the question many people who are unfamiliar with what throw lines are often become confused as to what its purpose is exactly.
Well, the foremost idea here is to make sure that everyone is throwing at the same distance. Imagine having no standard throw line and people just throw wherever they want. Not only would that be unorganized it would also be rather unfair, don’t you think?

As we have mentioned above, throw lines can be made out of the simplest of things. The idea is to create some kind of marker that would last you the entire game or something more permanent in the form of store bought throw line markers. Of course, you can’t just put your throw line marker wherever and however you want to.
There are standards and regulations that you must follow depending on the kind of darts you use. The distance of the throw line from your dartboard face varies accordingly if you are using a steel-tipped dart or a soft-tipped one so make sure that you keep that in mind.
